Salty Girl of the Month - Nancy Sheets

Saltwater Style's Salty Girl of the Month - Nancy Sheets
Pictured above with a 121 lbs Yellowfin on 30lb line on a Penn 16S Blueprint/bearing/sleeve.

Nancy has been fishing for many years and lives in sunny California with her husband Cal.  She is an avid fishing lady with many releases under her belt.  Her favorite boat to fish on is the "Retriever", a 61' Viking owned by Martha and Larry Warlaumont.  Nancy's favorite Reel is a Penn Intl 6 2-speeded/blueprinted with bearing/sleeve kit for better free spool/special handle all tricked out by Cal's 2-Speed Reel Conversions. Her favorite rod is her first custom rod built for her in 1989 by Doc Ski Rods in California. It is a Harnell Rod with a thread weave of her favorite dog (Rottweiler) Rod and wrapped in her favorite college, USC's colors which are cardinal and gold.
Her favorite thing to have on the boat is a good book and her favorite fishing buddy, her husband Cal.
One of  her favorite snacks on board is tomatoes.  They give her lots of luck because every time she starts to eat one she gets a strike.
Nancy's favorite fish to catch and eat is Dorado following a close second is the speedy Wahoo.
Nancy's tip to share which she learned from a good friend who is a light tackle world record holder (Pam Basco from Texas) is to keep your cool and concentrate on the fish.
Nancy doesn't compete in any fish tournaments, except for IWFA tournaments which are release and no money.  It's just for ladies and having fun.
Her best memory is of her first marlin in 1979, but her most memorable is her first Black Marlin on  Thanksgiving day 1989 in Rancho Buena Vista, Baja Mexico. She had the fish on for 1 1/2 hours in victory at sea water. Nancy could not see the fish. It was a blind strike and she had so much salt water in her eyes that all she was doing was following where her line was. After 1 1/2 hrs her captain, Manuel told her husband that it was not a Blue Marlin (what they thought). They both thought that it could not be a striped marlin. She was almost ready to pass the rod to her husband when Manuel said to Cal, "no Senor Cal esta Negro Marline (black marlin)". Well I never passed the rod off and after 3 1/2 hours.   I released a estimated 350 Lb Black Marlin that day.

Nancy and her husband own Cal's 2 Speed Reel Converstions.  Cal's 2 Speed Reel Conversions can convert all Penn International reels from the 6 to 130's and Shimano-TTS 30 to 80W's from single speed to 2 speed reels.
