Captain of the Week: Captain Pete Rae

Captain of the Week:  Capt. Pete Rae

Captain Pete Rae is from Morehead City, North carolina. He has been fishing all his life, but became employed as a mate on a head boat at the young age of 16. During the winter months he would commercial fish for King Mackeral and trap for Black Sea Bass. At the age of 23 Pete became the Captain of the charter boat "Tight Lines'. In 2004, Pete took a break from fishing and was a tug boat captain. It didnt take him long to realize what his true passion was and not long to get back to it. In 2005 he took a private captain's job on the "Desperado". The same year he won the Ocean City White Marlin open, still holding the largest purse ever won in the U.S. He also has Governor cup and SKA King Mackerel Tournament Wins. For the past few years, Pete has been the Captain of the "Sea Spud", a beautiful 60 Ft. B&D owned by Pat McCotter. When Pat and Pete aren't loading the fish boxes deep dropping or raising bills somewhere, the "Spud" is available for charters.
Anyone who has ever fished with Pete has left the docks with a greater education of the fish they were after that day and even greater memories to take home until the next time. He is notorious for loud music off the bridge and calling mandatories when the fishing gets slow. He is a consummate professional who makes sure everyone on board is involved and having a wonderful time.
Pete and the Sea Spud are now fishing in Isla Mujeres Mexico for the winter. He is available for charters there, and will be available again once returning back to atlantic beach north carolina, along with fishing the East coast tournaments. He also has a back country charter business that is thriving.
So, if your interested in catching sails, marlins, dolphins, sharks, tunas, pompanos, wahoos, flounders, or anthing else out there, while having a memorable time doing it, contact Captain Pete Rae.

Competing in various disciplines including the professional Bass circuit Mike still enjoys his competitive fishing as he says it keeps his edge. Adopting Catch & Release some 20yrs ago Mike has improved this to Catch, Photo, Release which he calls CPR and enforces this on his fishing adventures whilst educating the public on this. Salty Girl of the Month - Nancy Sheets

Saltwater Style's Salty Girl of the Month - Nancy Sheets
Pictured above with a 121 lbs Yellowfin on 30lb line on a Penn 16S Blueprint/bearing/sleeve.

Nancy has been fishing for many years and lives in sunny California with her husband Cal.  She is an avid fishing lady with many releases under her belt.  Her favorite boat to fish on is the "Retriever", a 61' Viking owned by Martha and Larry Warlaumont.  Nancy's favorite Reel is a Penn Intl 6 2-speeded/blueprinted with bearing/sleeve kit for better free spool/special handle all tricked out by Cal's 2-Speed Reel Conversions. Her favorite rod is her first custom rod built for her in 1989 by Doc Ski Rods in California. It is a Harnell Rod with a thread weave of her favorite dog (Rottweiler) Rod and wrapped in her favorite college, USC's colors which are cardinal and gold.
Her favorite thing to have on the boat is a good book and her favorite fishing buddy, her husband Cal.
One of  her favorite snacks on board is tomatoes.  They give her lots of luck because every time she starts to eat one she gets a strike.
Nancy's favorite fish to catch and eat is Dorado following a close second is the speedy Wahoo.
Nancy's tip to share which she learned from a good friend who is a light tackle world record holder (Pam Basco from Texas) is to keep your cool and concentrate on the fish.
Nancy doesn't compete in any fish tournaments, except for IWFA tournaments which are release and no money.  It's just for ladies and having fun.
Her best memory is of her first marlin in 1979, but her most memorable is her first Black Marlin on  Thanksgiving day 1989 in Rancho Buena Vista, Baja Mexico. She had the fish on for 1 1/2 hours in victory at sea water. Nancy could not see the fish. It was a blind strike and she had so much salt water in her eyes that all she was doing was following where her line was. After 1 1/2 hrs her captain, Manuel told her husband that it was not a Blue Marlin (what they thought). They both thought that it could not be a striped marlin. She was almost ready to pass the rod to her husband when Manuel said to Cal, "no Senor Cal esta Negro Marline (black marlin)". Well I never passed the rod off and after 3 1/2 hours.   I released a estimated 350 Lb Black Marlin that day.

Nancy and her husband own Cal's 2 Speed Reel Converstions.  Cal's 2 Speed Reel Conversions can convert all Penn International reels from the 6 to 130's and Shimano-TTS 30 to 80W's from single speed to 2 speed reels.
If any one wants to contact Nancy about having a Reel upgraded they can go to my web site www.cals2speed.com or my other email cals2speed@charterinternet.com.

Captain of the Week:  Capt. Tony Pantuso

Tony is a professional, full-time angler that has fished in East-Central Florida for 19 years.

Ever since hooking up with his first redfish in 1990 he has been hooked on shallow water fishing.

Redfish, Spotted Sea Trout, Snook, Tarpon and Black Drum are the usual target's for Captain Tony.  But, If it bites he will try and catch it!!

The spot and stalk technique used bow hunting crossed over into shallow water fishing perfectly. Poling silently along looking for subtle signs that a fish is there. You will
get buck fever at the sight of a 40lb redfish or a Gator
